jeff as a player

Jeff holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in physical education from the University of California-Berkeley. He competed on Cal's mens team for one year after three at UC-Santa Barbara. An active USVBA player, Jeff was a member of teams finishing in the top 10 at nationals six straight years. Four regional titles, numerous All-region awards, and international competition against teams from Japan, Korea and Canada round out his experience as a player.

COLLEGIATE COACHING

Jeff's collegiate career started right after college at the University of California-Berkeley as an assistant volleyball coach. He then joined his wife Marty, and together they led the Portland State Vikings to 4 NCAA Division II National Championships in the 80's and early 90's. Jeff produced 19 NCAA All-Americans at Portland State, and Jeff and Marty were both inducted into the Portland State Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. Jeff then accepted the head coaching job at Oregon State University where his teams recorded the most wins by any head coach in OSU history. In 2001 Jeff returned to Portland State to help rebuild the Vikings into a championship-caliber program. As the Vikings head coach from 2001-2006, Jeff led the team to five straight Big Sky Conference Championship appearances, and resurrected a program that had gone 0-25 in 2000. After transitioning Head Coaching responsibilities to his Associate Head Coach Michael Seeman in 2006, Jeff finished his career at Portland State as an Associate Athletic Director in 2014.

National Team Program experience

Jeff has had an ongoing relationship with the USA Volleyball Team, serving as an assistant coach, head coach and advisor at various times. In 1988 Jeff helmed the Junior National Team's Elite Training Program, and was the Head Coach of the Junior National Team on a tour through Canada. In 1993 Jeff was the Head Coach for the USA A-2 Program trip though Germany, and in 1999 Jeff was the Director of the USA Pan Am Games/A-2 Training Program.
